Liam Stevens is one of my more obvious inspirations for my project. His main medium being a mechanical pencil, his lines are clean and tidy. The detail that he can put into his illustrations make it enjoyable to take time and look at. Above is a still from a short animatic music video he did for My Robot Friend’s acoustic version of their song ‘Waiting’ (2011). The paper cuts achieved to create depth in a 2 dimensional medium of graphite on paper.
I have followed a similar approach to my paper cut outs. Initially they are drawn out on paper with a pencil. The drawings are scanned into the computers and sized down/up so they are all about the same size. I print it out, cut it out and start laying them out in the way that I feel makes the best.
